Synopsis:
An investment banker with the world at his feet discovers he isn’t quite the Master of the Universe he thought he was, in SNOOKER. Let go during the “economic downturn,” Lee, an American-educated Hong Kong native, spends his weekdays improving his billiard skills, waiting for the perfect job to find him. When his wife announces she’s pregnant, however, he resolves to get a job. But between concealing his unemployment from her, maintaining his image of himself, and striving to reenter the fiercely competitive banking world, he has more to master than he can handle. It’s only a matter of time before things spin out of control…
Actors:
LEE: 26-34, almost too-obviously handsome, overwhelmingly confident, with a strong sense of mischief and a sharp eye for fashion. He has a deep connection to both HK and the US, and he speaks English and Cantonese almost equally well. He has been married to DIANE for 18 months, and they live in a well-appointed apartment, with a view.
SEAN: 24-32 (slightly younger), also a slick-looking banker, but a bit younger, a bit less experienced, a bit less confident, and just a touch smarter. Sean, born in HK but educated in the west, worked under Lee for a few years until Lee was let go; Sean remains at his old job. He’s been a snooker player forever and is proud of it.
DIANE: 23-29, Pretty, girlish, and smarter than she seems, Hong Kong native Diane is practicing hard to become a perfect wife and hostess. Everything is going according to plan, including her marriage, her pregnancy, and her social aspirations. Her marriage to Lee is the engine that drives her forward, and she knows she’s going to continue to get just what she wants.
ROGER: A former coworker of Sean and Lee: intellectual, fashion-oblivious, and socially awkward, he’s nevertheless quite good with numbers.
LUCY: Roger’s wife and a school friend of Diane’s, she often schedules dinner with the two couples.
DAVID: One of Lee’s former superiors, David (early to mid-40s) is a compassionate managHer and a ruthless businessman.
